Identifier Domains Page
The Identifier Domains page provides access to the management of identifier domains. Each Identifier Domain entry represents an organization that assigns identifiers to records. For example, in the US the Social Security Administration is the organization that assigns social security numbers to individuals. OpenEMPI considers the combination of an identifier value along with the identifier domain that assigned it to be unique and not the identifier value by itself since multiple organization may assign the same identifier value to a record. OpenEMPI has an identifier domain that it associates with every identifier it assigns to a record. This identifier domain is called the global identifier and by default has the name “OpenEMPI”.
The table lists all the identifier domains that have been configured on the instance. You may add a new identifier domain by pressing the “Add Domain” button at the top right corner.
Checking the checkbox next to an identifier domain record causes a button bar to emerge from the bottom of the screen. The button bar includes options for editing an identifier domain or for deleting it. Before deleting an identifier domain entry, you need to confirm the operation by pressing the “Confirm” button on the dialog that is presented on the screen.
To add a new identifier domain, press the “Add Domain” button and complete the form by entering the required information. Each identifier domain must have a name and either a namespace identifier, a universal identifier and universal identifier type code, or both. The terms namespace identifier, universal identifier and universal identifier type code come from the HL7 organization and if you are integrating OpenEMPI with an HL7 message stream, you need to ensure that the values you use for these attributes match what is present in the messages you receive.
